Cecilia Ann Ladd

Memorial services for Cecilia Ann Ladd, 68, of Temple will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday Sept. 3, 2011 at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Patricia Dietrich officiating. Mrs. Ladd died Friday in a Temple hospital. Mrs. Ladd was born in Brookfield, Missouri to Lawrence Bell and Eleanor Eslinger Bell. She graduated from Lincoln High School and Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa with a Bachelors degree in Medical Technology. She was certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. She worked in the Blood Bank at Immanuel Lutheran Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska and at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. In Wichita, Kansas she trained people to become Specialists in Blood Banking---MT(ASCP)SBB. She then worked as the Chief Technician in the Blood Bank at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, where she started a training program for Blood Bank Specialists. In St. Louis, Missouri she served as Director of Technical Services for the Red Cross, where she also started a school for specialists in Blood Banking. Mrs. Ladd published several papers related to Blood Banking and held National offices in Blood Banking. She retired in 1978 after which she worked for five years in the Blood Bank at Scott & White Hospital. She married Dr. Daniel Ladd Oct. 27, 1978. She moved to Temple that same year. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church, was past president of the City Federation of Women's Club. She was also active in the Wildflower Quilt Guild, scrapbooking, Meals on Wheels and the Temple Community Free Clinic. Mrs. Ladd was preceded in death by one sister Linda Catron. Survivors include her husband Dr. Daniel Ladd of Temple; three sons Lawrence Ladd of Hutto Dr. Daniel Ladd Jr. of Austin and William Ladd of Round Rock; two daughters Jessica Jones of Temple and Susan Ladd of Maryland; two brothers Lawrence Bell and George Bell both of Iowa and nine grandchildren. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church. Scanio-Harper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
