

David Sidney Hobbs, age 65 of Troy, died Sunday, July 22, 2012 at his residence. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, July 26, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Packer officiating. Private family burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Hobbs was born March 20, 1947 in Austin to Elmo and Angeline Srnensky Hobbs. The family moved to Temple in 1950 where David attended Temple High School and graduated from there in 1965. He attended Temple Junior College and the University of Texas at Austin before graduating with a BBA degree from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Throughout his high school and college days, he worked as a disc jockey at KTEM-Temple and KVET-Austin. Afterwards he worked for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission as an auditor in Dallas and the Texas Panhandle. In 1972, David returned to Temple to join and manage Temple Color Company, the family business. He did so continuously until July 1, 2012 when English Color & Supply, Inc. of Dallas purchased Temple Color Company after 62 years of business. David continued to manage the store until his death. David was devoted to his family as a husband, father, "Poppy", brother and uncle. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Annelle Hobbs, son Brent Luck and his wife Kris, grandsons Ryan Luck and Alex Luck, and granddaughter Elizabeth Luck; he is also survived by his two brothers, Ken Hobbs and Ken's wife, Melva and Dennis Hobbs and Dennis' wife Lisa; nephews, Chad Hobbs, Brad Hobbs and Justin Hobbs; and nieces, Kristi Hobbs Cleere and Lauren Hobbs and his mother-in-law, Helen Haddock. David was a member of the First Baptist Church of Temple and also served previously on the Temple Independent School District Board. He was a member of the Knob Creek Masonic Lodge #401, King Solomon Lodge #1427, Temple York Rite Bodies and an endowed member of Waco Scottish Rite Bodies. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in David's name to your favorite children's charity. Pallbearers are Al Brockett, Jack Compton, Steve Haddock, Brad Hobbs, Mike Kerlin, Robert Paulk, Gene Sosa and Vince Thompson. The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of love, concern and kindness shown to them during this time. May God bless and keep you.
