E. Marie Hunter

E. Marie Hunter, age 87, of Temple died Thursday, September 1, 2011 in a local nursing center. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 6 at Bellwood Memorial Park with Chaplain Brent Eaton officiating. Visitation will be 5:30 - 7:00 PM Monday, September 5 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Mrs. Hunter was born on October 22, 1923 in Decatur County, Indiana to Charles Cortez and Iva Merle (Bayless) Barnes. She married John E. Hunter on November 16, 1940 in Carrollton, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on September 5, 2003. She had been a resident of Temple since 1964. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Temple where she was a member of W.M.U. and was an honorary member of the church sanctuary choir. She had been the Director of Sunday School at Nasugbu Beach Chapel in Yokohama, Japan and taught Sunday School classes at First Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia and First Baptist Church in Temple. She was a director of Training Union at First Baptist Church from 1957 - 1960. Marie was a Cub Scout leader for six years in Greensburg, Indiana and Alexandria, Virginia and also a Brownie leader for two years in Alexandria. She was a Red Cross volunteer for 22 years at Yokohama General Hospital in Yokohama, Japan and Hanau Medical Clinic in Hanau, Germany and also Bell County Office in Temple where she served two terms on the Board of Directors. She was also a member of the Central Texas Sportsman's Club. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Sharon McCabe, six brothers and three sisters. Survivors include two sons, John R. Hunter and wife, Carolyn of Belton, Steven Hunter of Tyler, one brother, Clarence Barnes of Fairfield, five grandchildren, Richard K. Hunter, Tony Schmidt, Annette Edmondson, Jana Bryan and Tracy Valentine, 13 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren and son-in-law, Roy McCabe of Moore, Oklahoma. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church in Temple - Music Ministry or VistaCare Hospice.
