

Floyd Bumpus, age 84 of Temple died Wednesday January 2, 2013 at Stoney Brook of Belton. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, January 7, 2013 at Scanio Harper Funeral Chapel with Rev. Johnny Miller officiating. A private burial will be on Tuesday, January 8 at Bellwood Memorial Park. Mr. Bumpus was born July 26, 1928 in Indianola, Oklahoma to sharecroppers Louis Alva and Louisa D'Abry (Prater) Bumpus. He was reared and educated in Indianola then moved to Conway, Arkansas where he and his twin brother joined the Navy during World War II. He met and married Wilma Ruth Bishop on February 2, 1947 in Conway, Arkansas. Mr. and Mrs. Bumpus were residents of Temple since 1994. Mr. Bumpus was a member of Oak Park United Methodist Church in Temple. He was a member of American Legion #144 in Temple and the American Radio Relay League. He was an Amateur Radio Operator for 56 years. His call sign was N5EL and his twin brother Lloyd was N6EL. He retired from the Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa) in Bauxite, Arkansas where he worked as the sheet metal foreman. Survivors include daughter Linda Kay Lake of Waxahachie, a son David Bumpus and his wife Bonnie of Belton, daughter Roxanna-Bumpus Ginnett and husband Roger of Italy, Texas, and daughter, Susan Bumpus-Simmons and husband Mike of College Station, four grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Oak Park United Methodist Church at 5505 S. 31 Street, Temple, Texas 76502.
