

G. W. Elkins, age 89 of Rogers, died Friday, September 13, 2013 in a local care center. A graveside service will be 2:30 PM Monday, September 16, at North Belton Cemetery with Rev. J. J. James and Rev. Dan Mappus officiating. Visitation will be 12:00 - 1:30 PM Monday, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Mr. Elkins was born July 18, 1924 in Rawls to Jeff James and Ocie Reed Elkins. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army during WWII. He was a former resident of Kingsville and Temple and had lived in Rogers for many years. He worked in hospital security at the Temple V. A. Hospital over 20 years retiring in 1984. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Temple and former member of Kingsville Nazarene Church and Belton Nazarene Church. He was also a member of American Legion Post #133 in Temple. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Georgette Vanier-Elkins, stepson, Jesse Robbins, Jr., stepdaughter, Carolyn Calley, two brothers, Bill and Jack Elkins and sister, Pearl Elkins Bowser. Survivors include his wife, Frances (Fran) Elkins of Rogers, three sons, Louis Elkins and wife, Sheila of Morgan's Point Resort, Donnie Elkins of Rogers and David Elkins and wife, Carolyn of Belton, 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Mildred Allamon of Temple.
