

Gregorio (Greg) Cortez, age 34 of Temple, died Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Ernest Minor officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5-7:30pm Friday, January 27, 2017 at The Church of God of the First Born, 2103 N. Beal Street, Belton, Texas. Greg was born on May 6, 1982 in Lamesa, Texas to Lasaro Cortez and Guadalupe Ortega Cortez. He attended schools in Temple. Greg was always the life of the party and always was a jokester. Greg loved his girls dearly as well as his nieces and nephews and was always joking and laughing with them. There was never a serious moment with Greg, no matter how much you tried. Even in his final moments, he was making everyone laugh. His contagious smile lit up the room and will be sorely missed. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry and Gavino Cortez; grandparents, Bernardino and Maria Cortez, and Gregorio and Trinidad Ortega. Survivors include his two daughters, Emma Lara-Cortez and Sonya Lara-Cortez, both of Cameron; mother, Guadalupe Cortez of Temple; father, Lasaro Cortez, Sr. of Temple; brothers, Victor Cortez of Morgan’s Point Resort, Abram Cortez of Lamesa, Cornelio Cortez and Lasaro Cortez, Jr., both of Temple; sisters, Martha Casarez Cortez of Austin, Rachael Cortez Garibay, Delilah Cortez, Sarah Cortez and Elodia Cortez Tuttle, all of Temple; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
