
Irma Marie (Cosson) Utterback, age 90, of McGregor went to be with her Savior and Lord on Thursday, June 26, 2008 in a Temple hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday, June 28, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Temple with Minister Michael Williams and Rev. Jakie Shirley officiating. Private family burial will be held at New Dublin Liveoak Cemetery in Dublin. Visitation will be 6:00 8:00 PM Friday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Mrs. Utterback was born September 1, 1917 in Teague to Homer Lee and Bessie Maude (Baker) Cosson. As a child she moved back and forth from Oklahoma to Texas several times. She graduated from Teague High School in 1936. After graduation she worked at the Wichita Falls State Hospital for eight years as a ward attendant. She also attended a business college. She worked as a lab and x-ray technician at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin for two years, Crockett Hospital in Crockett for four years and for Dr. Sam Barnes in Trinity for four years. In September, 1954 she went to visit friends in Corpus Christi where she was introduced to a friend of theirs, George Allen Utterback. Irma and George were married on March 12, 1955. She then moved to Corpus Christi where she continued to work as a lab and x-ray technician for Dr. Joseph Oshman. When her first child was born on January 1, 1956 she became a stay-at-home Mom. Her second child was born in 1957 and her youngest in 1960. When her youngest child started Jr. High School, Irma started working as a teacher's aide so she would be off when her children and husband (who was a coach) was off. In 1978, George, Irma and daughter, Laura, moved to Stephenville where she worked at Stephenville Hospital as an x-ray and EKG technician for six years. In 1985, George and Irma moved to Temple to be near Scott & White Hospital and their daughter who lived in Moody. In 1989, she lost her husband to a heart attack. In 1991, she moved to Moody to live on her daughter's ranch and in 2006, she moved to McGregor with her daughter to live on their new ranch. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Temple, Bell County Retired Teachers Association and Texas State Teachers Association. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Modine (Cosson) Reed, two brothers, Harold Cosson and Vernon Cosson and two nephews, Herbert Reed and Travis Cosson. Survivors include two sons, David A. Utterback and wife, Connie of Temple, George A. Utterback, Jr. and wife, Michelle of Moody and one daughter, Laura Marie (Utterback) Doshier and husband, Larry of McGregor and six grandchildren, Luke Utterback and Faith Utterback of Bowie, Tiffany Doshier and Mark Doshier of McGregor and Katie Utterback and John David Utterback of Temple and one great-grandchild. Also surviving is one sister, Eunice Webb of Splendora. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to New Dublin Liveoak Cemetery, P. O. Box 372, Dublin, TX 76446.
