Jan (Jeanette Marie) Stuckey, at age 67, after a battle with a sudden, unexpected stroke on Sunday May 7, 2017, went home immediately into the arms of her loving Savior, Jesus Christ on Saturday, May 13, 2017 in Baylor Scott and White Hospital, Temple, Texas surrounded by her loving family while in the care of the hospital's outstanding and compassionate Surgical Critical Care Team. Memorial services will be held at 10:00am Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Salado with Dr. Travis Burleson officiating. Burial will be at Salado Cemetery in Salado, Texas. Jan was born on October 30, 1949 at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas to W.G. and Marian (Smith) Ellis. On May 17, 1984, Jan married Mike Stuckey in Austin, Texas. She has resided in Salado, TX since 2002 and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Salado for the last five years. Survivors include her husband, Mike Stuckey of Salado; daughter, Jennifer Marie Watson of Cedar Park, TX and her children Hope Abigail and Beau Watson; a son, Jacob Auburn Childs, currently teaching and residing in Suzhou, China; a daughter, Michelle Grambort, of Round Rock, Texas and her children Megan and Robert Grambort and Megan's children Kaylee and Noah; an adopted son, through Compassion International, Maniraguha Closine of Rwanda; her mother, Marian Odell of Ft Worth, Texas and her step father, Herb Odell; two sisters, Barbara Dubose and Denise Dubose Thibideau, and one brother Doug Dubose. Jan was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Powell Stuckey in 2005. Jan is the author of an internationally performed play, “The Wall: A Pilgrimage”. In the 1980's she wrote her column “Child's Play” for three years for the Round Rock and Taylor newspapers. After coming to Christ 30 years earlier, she surrendered her life to His call during the night of January 3, 1992. Soon she was teaching and writing for Him. She completed 8 years of Bible Study Fellowship where she was a childrens leader and student. She has lead Christian retreats for women, been a Christian speaker/teacher, skit writer and was supposed to teach in her Sunday School class just this Mother's Day. She loved unconditionally, never formed prejudices, stood up for animals and was constantly a friend to the underdog and forgotten. She was gifted with hilarious but poignant humor and discernment. Let's say that again, she was gifted with hilarious but poignant humor and discernment. There is hardly a page in her Bible that is not dogeared, underlined, highlighted and with notes in every available margin. With word or pen, she could touch the center of one's heart with the gentleness of a mother's caress. She was affectionately named “Sweet, precious, good and kind Jan” by her grandmother and that best describes her character to this day. Let's just say this, “she had learned to trust God and His son, Jesus, with all her heart and she did not lean on her own understanding. In all her ways, she had learned to acknowledge Him and to let Him make straight her path”. (Para. Proverbs 3:5-6) So when all has been said, her faithfulness and life, surely, has pleased Him because her work on earth is done. Alleluia! And AMEN.
