

Mama Jean was born on February 21, 1933, to Homer & Lilly Odom in Wichita Falls, TX. She graduated from Temple High School and married Samuel Robert Jones in 1951. She dedicated her professional life to education and caring for children, working at Scott Elementary School for 27 years as the school secretary and later, after retirement, worked for 5 years at McGowan Stephen's Episcopal School. Her unwavering kindness and commitment made her a pillar in the school community.
Mama Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel R. Jones; an infant daughter, Deborah Jean Jones; her oldest son, Samuel R. Jones, Jr., her parents, Homer and Lilly Odom, and sister Anne Sullivan.
Mama Jean leaves behind a legacy of love in her three children: Sally Jones Schmalstieg and husband Steve of Sinton; Timothy Scott Jones of Brady, and Steven Chad Jones of Temple. She was the cherished grandmother of eight grandchildren; Sammy Jones and wife, Krista of Rogers, Chad Weston Jones and wife Danielle of Temple, Tracilyn Jones-Poss and husband Jeff of Austin, Michael Aaron Fellabaum and wife Alexandra Everitt of Autin, Kathryn Jean Isaacks and husband Clint of Corpus Christi, Steven Chad Jones, Jr. and wife Abby of Melissa, Jeffrey Robert Jones and wife Kayla of Leander, Brittany Dianne Jones of Mckinney; nine great grandchildren, Cole Douglas Jones and wife Makenzee, Jake Robert Jones, Taylor Nicole Jones Harrison and husband Trey, Connor & Claire Jones, Leonor Fellabaum, Steven Jones 3rd, Carson & Parker Isaaks, and four great great grandchildren, Oakleigh and Tate Harrison and Kayce and Cooper Jones. Also surviving are her brother Bill Odom of Temple, sister Delia Jeannette McKenzie of Temple and sister Lola Sue Graves of Temple, nieces, nephews, and many beloved friends.
Mama Jean was the best and most amazing woman who ever lived. Her strength, kindness, and endless love made her an absolute gift to her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She spent her entire life blessing the lives of everyone who knew her with unmatched love, wisdom, and grace. Her laughter, generosity, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
A celebration of Mama Jean’s remarkable life will be held on Wednesday, May 14 at 2:00pm at
Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park.
Visitation will be at Scanio Harper Funeral Home in Temple on Tuesday, May 13 from 5:00pm-8:00pm.
Her memory will live on in the countless hearts she touched throughout her 92 beautiful years.
