Jean Tormey

Jean Cole Hitt Tormey, 83, of Temple, went to be with the Lord on December 19, 2015. She was born on March 31st, 1932 in Raymondville, Texas, where she lived until she graduated from Raymondville High School in 1950. She was born with her twin sister, Jo, to Effie and Lonnie Cole. Jean was a woman with a love for Christ and a love for others. She paved a way of faith for her family and friends and truly lived a life of love for anyone that was blessed to encounter such a genuine and selfless woman. She has resided in Temple since 1992. Jean worked as a manager at Kayla’s Hallmark in the mall and was employed by the Scott & White Health Plan for many years before she retired. For the last three years of her life, she lived at Stoneybrook of Belton, TX, where she enjoyed the fellowship of her many friends and caring staff. Jean enjoyed playing bridge, reading and spending time with her family, friends and pets. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas M. Tormey; mother, Effie Cole; father, Lonnie Cole; Three brothers, Cornell, Lonnie and Billy Ray Cole; and two sisters, Catherine Doan and Sylvia Carmen. She is survived by her two sons, John William Hitt, his wife Kim, of Richardson, TX, and daughter Angela, her husband Doug and daughter Aisley, of Tyler, TX. Kirby Dee Hitt, his wife Dawn and children , Lindsay Rosenbaum, her husband Allen and children Ginny, Reese, Finley and Brody, of Temple, TX; Tyler Hitt, his wife Shannon, and sons Brayden and Camden, of Dickinson, TX; Brooks Hitt and wife Kristen, of Dallas, TX; and Paige Hitt, of Temple, TX. She is also survived by her son’s father, J. Pat Hitt, of Burnet, TX. She is also survived by her twin sister, Jo Lee, residing in Bishop, TX with her husband Dewitt Lee. Services for Jean Cole Hitt Tormey will be held at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home at 3:00 PM Wednesday, December 23rd with Gary DeSalvo of Temple Bible Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the Baylor Scott & White Orthopedic and Cardiovascular Institutes.
