Surrounded by love, Jim Granfor peacefully entered into the presence of God on September 28, 2025, at the age of 80. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Born in Gadsden, Alabama, on February 2, 1945, to Emmanuel Theodore Granfor and Dorothy Marie Moore Granfor, Jim was raised in a military family with deep farming roots in North Dakota. As a teenager, he moved with his family to Temple, Texas, where he attended Temple High School.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Jim joined the United States Air Force, where he served with distinction for 20 years and retired with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. After his military service, he continued his professional journey at Materials Transportation Company in Temple, ultimately retiring as President and CEO.
Jim earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and later received his master’s degree in Organizational Development Management from the University of Phoenix.
A dedicated leader in both civic and professional circles, Jim was a past president of the Sunrise Rotary Club of Temple and the Central Texas Human Resource Management Association. He also served on the national board for the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). Deeply committed to his faith and community, he was president of Immanuel Lutheran Church and chaired the Temple Chamber of Commerce’s Military Affairs Committee for many years. He devoted much of his time to strengthening ties between military families and the broader community, working to foster appreciation and support for veterans.
Jim was married to the love of his life, Dorothy Jeannette Pricer, for 61 years. They were united in marriage on May 9, 1964, at Little River Baptist Church in Little River, Texas. Throughout Jim’s military career, they traveled the world before settling permanently in Temple. Together, they lovingly raised three children. Jim and Dorothy also shared a passion for golf, playing in all 50 states and even in Paris, France.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy Granfor; two daughters, Tammy Granfor (partner Peter Rondoni) and Debra Jackson (husband Steve Jackson); three grandchildren, Megan McNeill (husband Ryan McNeill), James Cotten, Wayne Cotten (wife Misa Cotten); and two great-granddaughters, Hallie and Harper McNeill. He is also survived by his sister, Diane Woodyard, and brother, Larry Granfor (wife Karen Granfor) of Troy, Texas.
He was preceded in death by their son, Jeffrey Granfor, and his parents.
A service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2109 W Avenue H, Temple, Texas, on Tuesday, October 7th, at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, interment with military honors will take place at Central Texas Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
