John Byron Gernand

Mr. Gernand was born on January 11, 1943 in San Francisco, California to the late William Patrick Gernand and Elizabeth Katherine Schmidt Gernand. He graduated from Brazosport High School in 1960 and enlisted in the Air Force. John was honorably discharged in 1962. John lived in the Temple area for over 20 years and worked in automotive refrigeration. John was Catholic. He was a devoted family man and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bonnye Gernand; and his brothers, Dan P. Gernand and Bill C. Gernand; and by infant twin sons.

Survivors include a daughter, Teresa Grammater of Phoenix, Arizona; sons, Timothy “Mike” Gernand and wife Catrina of Bastrop, Texas, Trinity Gernand of Carthage, Texas and Thomas Taylor of Spiro, Oklahoma; grandchildren, John William Gernand, Mariah Gernand, Jessica Gernand, John Wayne, JJ, Kristi and Jillian; siblings, Theresa Krause and husband Michael of Gainesville, Georgia, Cecilia Harrison and husband Jerry of Jones Creek, Texas, Fred Gernand and wife Kat of Brazoria, Texas, David Gernand of Bellaire, Texas, Rose Wagner of Sweeny, Texas and Byron Gernand and wife Karen of Lake Jackson, Texas; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

John was the best big brother ever. He always was thinking of others rather than himself. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
