
Juanita Akers Barnes, age 90, of Temple died Friday, November 26, 2010 in a local nursing center. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 30 at Christ Episcopal Church with The Rev. David Alwine officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM Monday at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Mrs. Barnes was born on January 16, 1920 in Pursley, Texas to Darling Jackson and Anna Bruce (Powell) Akers. She graduated from SMU with a degree in Electrical Engineering and later in life from Temple College with a degree in Computer Science. During WWII she worked in California with the U. S. Army Signal Corps. She married L. H. Barnes, Jr. on September 11, 1954. He preceded her in death in 1979. She worked for Santa Fe Railroad in Fort Worth for many years and retired from Strasburger Enterprises in Temple. After retirement she worked for several years in the office at Meadow Oaks Baptist Church. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and was a 60 year member of Order of the Eastern Star and was a past president of ABWA. Survivors include her daughter, Bonita Moore and husband, Philip of Lafayette, Louisiana and granddaughter, Taryn Leigh Moore of Crockett. Memorial donations may be made to Texas Home Health Hospice or Christ Church.
