Katherine D. Cooney

Funeral services for Katherine D. Cooney, 92, of Temple will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday at St. Luke Catholic Church with Father James Ekeocha officiating. Burial will be in Bellwood Memorial Park. Mrs. Cooney died Wednesday in a Belton Living Center. Mrs. Cooney was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, December 20, 1920 to Harry Tyson and Katherine Petro Tyson. She married John A. Cooney, Sr. July 20, 1943. He preceded her in death November 16, 1989. She moved to Temple in 1984 from Pennsylvania. She had been a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in East Islip, New York. She was also a member of the Mothers Club at St. Mary's, and she worked with handicapped children in East Islip. After moving to Temple she became a member of St. Luke Catholic Church where she was a member of the Women's Society and participated in Bible Study. She was also a member of the Widows Group of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Temple. Mrs. Cooney was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Robert Tyson. Survivors include three sons Dr. John Cooney and his wife Ann of Temple, Robert Cooney of Temple and Dr. Edward Cooney and his wife Louise of Lorena; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to St. Luke Catholic Church Development Fund. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. with Rosary being recited at 7:30 P.M. at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
