

Larry was born to Alvin and Anna Posvar on May 27, 1945 in Cameron, TX. He attended Cyclone, Barclay, Rosebud, and Rogers schools. He graduated from Rogers High School in 1964 and then attended Temple Junior College. On September 8, 1968, Larry married Nancy Dubcak. Larry began his career in 1964 with Warrior Construction Company as a carpenter. Between 1965 and 1975, he was employed at First National Bank, Wilson Art, 7-UP, and WoodArts in Temple. He then joined Goolsby Building Corp. in 1975 as a Construction Superintendent where he completed a Waste Water Treatment Plant in Harker Heights, a Water Storage Pump Station in San Antonio, a Physical Plant for Texas A&M University in College Station, a Water Treatment Plant for the City of Corpus Christi, a Tax Shop, a Storage Tank, and the Third Quarter Office Building for United States Army Corps of Engineers in Fort Hood. In 1981, he joined Belco Construction Company and completed the Cyclotron Project for Texas A&M University in College Station, followed by a Transfer Lift Station for the Brazos River Authority in Waco, and then a Sewage Treatment Plant for the City of New Braunfels. In 1987, he joined Daybreak Construction where he completed Sur Ross Elementary in Waco. In 1989, he joined Gene Doss Construction Company where he completed the Texas A&M University Beef Cattle Center, South Fort Worth Elementary, a RVOS Building in Temple, a Gymnasium in Dime Box, Allison Elementary for Austin ISD, a Field House for Academy ISD, a Fieldhouse for Rogers ISD, the Rogers ISD Elementary and Junior High Renovation, the Football Stadium Press Box for Rogers ISD, the Temple ISD Armory Renovations, the Buckholts ISD New Classroom Building, an Addition to the Airport for the City of Killeen, a Cafeteria Renovation for Tarleton State University in Stephenville, and numerous other projects. In 2001, he joined Vanguard Contractors where he completed the Johns Community Hospital Addition in Taylor, the Social Security Building in Temple, the Lamar Office Building in Temple, the Marak Parish Hall in Marak, and several other projects. Larry enjoyed the outdoors and was a country boy through and through. He always reminded his family how lucky they were to live on the farm to enjoy the beauty and freedoms that it and the country life provided. One of the things Larry loved to do the most was ride around in his pick-up truck to check on his neighbors and see the fruits of his labor from his ranching and farming operations. Larry was always looking to establish new friendships, and simply enjoyed the company of people. Larry was a regular customer and visitor at B.F.& M Coop where he enjoyed the company of so many good friends. Larry was a very devoted Catholic and a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cyclone. Previously, he had served as Eucharistic Minister, Usher, and a Parish Council member. Throughout Larry’s pain and suffering from numerous surgical operations, cancer treatments, arthritis, and the loss of his daughter, Larry always kept his trust in the Lord. Larry’s Catholic faith enabled him to carry-on with his life and set an example to his family. Just prior to his passing, Larry was still actively engaged in farming and ranching, recently completing the 2017 corn harvest with his son. Larry was a 4th Degree Honorary Life Member in the Knights of Columbus Temple Area Assembly 3488, a 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus Cyclone-Marak Council 10186, a member of SPJST Lodge 24, RVOS Lodge 107 Vice President, and secretary of KJT Society St. Joseph No. 57 Cyclone. He is survived by his wife Nancy of 49 years, sons Rodney (Stacie) Posvar of Temple and Jeffrey Posvar of Meeks, and five grandchildren, Colton, Kylie, and Brody Posvar, and Brandon and Sidney Stanford. He is also survived by a sister Marian (Larry) Carpenter of Morgan's Point, and an aunt Georgia Posvar of Temple. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Denise Posvar, a granddaughter Molly Kate Posvar, and brother Melvin Posvar. Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 PM at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home, 3110 Airport Rd., Temple, Texas 76504. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cyclone followed by burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Larry's name to St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery 18801 Cyclone Branch RD Burlington, TX 76519.
