Larry Eugene Crawford of Temple, while in his home surrounded by loving family, went to be with our Lord and Savior in Heaven on June 8, 2010. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 12 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Pastor David Newsome officiating. Burial will follow at Temple Garden of Memories. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Larry was born to Clayton (Jack) and Eileen Crawford on January 29, 1950 in Grand Island, Nebraska. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Nita R. Crawford, their son Clayton H. Crawford, and their daughter Melody A. Flores, as well as Melody's husband Raymond Flores and their children Callie, Raymond and Shelby. Also mourning his passing is his sister Debbie Graham and her husband Rich of Indianola, Iowa; sister Connie Turner and her husband Steve of Redfield, Iowa; brother Jack Crawford and his wife Carol of Columbia, Illinois; and brother Jim Crawford and his wife Maggie of McCall, Idaho and his mother-in-law, Evelyn Newsome of Temple. During his career, Larry was a Food Service Administrator for King's Daughters Hospital, Administrator of several retirement communities and retired from Hearthstone Assisted Living. Larry truly loved his work; it provided him the opportunity to care for and be of service to other people, particularly the elderly and others who could not do so for themselves. In his retirement, Larry enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, drinking coffee with good friends and "piddling" in the garage. He enjoyed wood working, gardening and fishing; most importantly, Larry loved to cook! In continued service to others, during his retirement, Larry helped to form a local Temple chapter for Gambler's Anonymous. In doing so, he found a sense of peace amongst those friends. Larry was a wonderful Christian man who always put other people's needs before his own and took on people's burdens as his own. He loved his wife and children and was whole heartedly dedicated to them. He lived a tremendous life of diligent, heartfelt service to a great number of people without ever wanting anything in return. The Lord took him from us rather unexpectedly, but we rejoice that he is in Heaven to be with his savior, Jesus Christ for eternity. Larry is loved by so many family and friends, and will be dearly missed. Pallbearers are Clayton Harrell Crawford, Raymond Flores, Jack Crawford, Jim Crawford, Pat Newsome and Bob Syndram. Honorary pallbearer is Sam Melton.
