LeRoy Mertz Sr.

Funeral services for LeRoy Mertz Sr., 80, of Rogers will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Rogers with Rev. Larry O'Neal officiating. Burial will be in Rogers Cemetery. Mr. Mertz died at a Temple hospital Saturday Oct. 17, 2009. Mr. Mertz was born in Taylor to R.H. Mertz and Mary Frieda Wathers Mertz. He served in the U.S. Marines during the end of World War II and during the Korean Conflict. He married Mary (Bonnie) Mertz June 24, 1949 in Buckholts. She preceded him in death Dec. 17, 1997. He lived in Bryan before moving to Rogers. He was a farmer, the Produce Manager at Orrs Grocery in Bryan and worked for Buddy Sledge Construction in Bryan. After moving to Rogers he worked for Duplex Products and the Rogers Schools. He was a member of County Line Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. Survivors include his daughter Leslie Nabours and her husband Bobby of Wheelock; his son LeRoy Mertz Jr. and his friend Julie Bussell of Novi, Michigan; one brother Allen Mertz and his wife Joyce of Rogers; one sister Julia Hillyard of Troy, five grandchildren Sarah Jo Nabours of Madisonville, Bob Nabours of Wheelock and Scarlet Nabours of Wheelock, LeRoy Mertz III of Norfolk, Virginia and Esteban Mertz of Belton three great grandchildren Jack Redden, Ruby Mae Redden and riley Nabours and one step grandchild Adam Bussell.
