

Services for Lois E. Redwine age 99 of Temple, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Mrs. Redwine passed away Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at her residence. The family will receive visitors from 1-2:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
Lois Ellen Redwine was born on April 11, 1925, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to the late Robert Lee Riley and Fannie Douglas Riley. She graduated from Wichita Falls High School and attended Hardin College (now Midwestern University). Lois married Sam Redwine in Henrietta, Texas, on June 27, 1948. Because Mr. Redwine worked for the Santa Fe Railroad, they spent the first ten years of their marriage moving from one railroad town to another. They finally moved to Temple in 1958, where they remained throughout their lives. Lois was preceded in death by her husband on September 1, 2005.
Lois worked as a bookkeeper and account clerk for various businesses throughout her working career. She was the bookkeeper and account clerk for Dr. Pepper Bottling in Temple for 28 years until she retired in 1988. After retirement she volunteered with various organizations to help with bookkeeping duties and helped organize bingo for the Elks Lodge for many years.
She was a member of First Methodist Church. She served as the Worthy Matron for Vashti Chapter #32 of the Order of the Eastern Star and remained a lifetime member. She was a lifetime member of the Benevolent Patriotic Order of Does #139. She served as the Mother Advisor for the Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She was the treasurer of NARVRE (National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees).
The number one joy of her life were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved spending time with them and feeding them when they would visit. Her specialties were spaghetti and turkey and dressing. Lois was an avid reader and loved sharing her books with others. She loved spending time with her friends and especially dancing with her husband Sam. She instilled a strong work ethic in her children and a belief in serving others.
Survivors include a son, John Lee Redwine and wife Marsha of Temple; two daughters, Cheryl Sanders and husband Terry of Temple, and Vivian Walker and husband Don, Sr. of Temple; eight grandchildren, Carrie Alvis, Michelle Lunday (James), Stacie Posvar (Rodney), Michael Redwine (Sonia), Sammy Sanders (Kelly), Don Walker, Jr. (Megan), Melissa Redwine, and David Walker (Elizabeth); 15 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Mrs. Redwine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and three sisters.
