
Marilyn McAskill Cunningham, 87, of Temple died Monday, July 9, 2007 at her home surrounded by her family. Born on September 29, 1919 in Nashville, Tennessee to Marvin and Erin Hilliard McAskill, she grew up and graduated from high school in Edinburg, Texas, where her mother was postmaster for many years. After graduation from the University of Texas, she remained active in the Delta Delta Delta Sorority, holding national and local offices. Her husband, John P. Cunningham, Sr. of Temple predeceased her in 1989. They were married in 1940. Her survivors include her children, Lynn Luster and husband, R. O. Luster of Houston; Cynthia Cunningham of Dallas; John P. Cunningham, Jr. and wife, Jeanne of Temple. She is also survived by James McAskill, her brother of Wake Forest, North Carolina, and her grandchildren, Ronald Luster and wife, Tammy of Houston; Preston Luster of Houston; John Preston Cunningham, III and wife, Erin, and their child, Ellie Elizabeth of Houston; Scott T. Cunningham and wife, Andrea of Dallas; and Catherine Erin Salzman and husband, Ryan of Fort Worth. The family expresses special thanks to Rose Bronson for her care and compassion. She has been a member of First United Methodist Church of Temple and its Friendship Class for over 40 years. Her interests were traveling, cooking and her family. She remained active in Cunningham Real Estate until shortly before her death. The family plans a private burial service and a memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Temple on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at 11:00 am. Family visitation will be at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 10, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peaceable Kingdom Retreat for Children or the charity of choice.
