Marjorie Frances Harper, age 96, of Temple, Texas, passed from this life into eternal rest on Friday, May 16, 2025. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Marjorie lived a life marked by devotion, kindness, and quiet strength.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025, at the funeral home.
Born in the close-knit community of Red Ranger, Texas, on May 1, 1929, to Emil and Frances (Pechal) Simek, Marjorie was raised with enduring values of faith, family, and hard work. She attended Red Ranger School and graduated from Rogers High School, carrying with her a steadfast determination that would define her character throughout her life.
On February 28, 1949, Marjorie married the love of her life, Orvil Harper, Jr., in their hometown of Temple. Together, they shared seventy-six beautiful years of marriage, a bond built on mutual respect, unwavering commitment, and deep affection. Their love was a shining example of partnership and grace.
Marjorie dedicated many years of service as the assistant manager at the Sperry Hutchinson Redemption Center in Temple, better known to many as the S&H Green Stamps store. Her professionalism, warm smile, and impeccable attention to detail left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Beyond her career, Marjorie’s greatest joy came from creating a loving home. She was a phenomenal baker whose pies and pastries were the heart of many cherished family gatherings. She found peace in tending her yard, especially her flower beds, where her nurturing spirit bloomed with every petal. She cared deeply for her home, ensuring it was a place of comfort, beauty, and welcome.
Above all, Marjorie was devoted to her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her wisdom, gentle guidance, and unconditional love will forever remain in their hearts.
She was a faithful member of Chalice Church in Temple, where she worshiped and drew strength from her deep and enduring faith.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Frances Simek; her sisters, Ann Harper, Lorraine Garden, and Geraldine Henry; and her brother, Alvin Simek.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Orvil Harper, Jr.; her son, Michael Harper, and his wife Frances; her grandchildren, Chad Harper, and Brent Harper and his wife Brittney; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Camryn Harper and Brookelyn Harper; her sister, Corinne Dykowski; her brother, Albert Simek, and his wife Donna.
Pallbearers will be Chad Harper, Brent Harper, Camryn Harper, Troy Bruce, Rinn Harper, and Chuck Ellis.
The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to Western Hills Nursing and Rehab and Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chalice Church, 300 N 5th Street, Temple, TX 76501, in honor of Marjorie’s enduring faith and lifelong devotion to her church family.
