Martin C. Hughes

Martin C. Hughes, 85, of Temple died Tuesday, March 13, 2007 in a local nursing home. Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 17, 2007 in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Mr. Hughes was born June 19, 1921 in New Brunswick, New Jersey to Martin Collins and Rebecca Wooten Hughes. He attended Texas A&M University and the University of Illinois. He was a member of the Society Friends (Quakers) and the American Friends Service Committee. He was an Eagle Scout and was a conscientious objector. He was preceded in death by his first wife Frances Sward Hughes and his second wife Virginia Brown Hughes. Survivors include two daughters, Jeannette Marie Hughes of Ashville, North Carolina and Sharon Sinkewiez of Clarksville, Virginia; four sons, Chris Hughes of Temple, Texas, Ron Hughes of Whitakers, North Carolina, Steve Hughes of Statesville, North Carolina, and Allen Hughes of Ashville, North Carolina; one sister, Jane Hughes Fleming of Houston, Texas; one brother, George Robert Hughes of El Paso, Texas; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
