
Martin Popelka, age 85, of Temple died Monday, January 21, 2008 in a local hospital. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, January 24, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Popelka officiating. Burial will follow at Seaton Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Popelka was born July 26, 1922 in Cyclone to Tom and Frances (Stanek) Popelka. He was reared and educated in Temple and was a veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Evelyn Stepan on January 22, 1945 in Pampa. He was employed as a house painter in the Temple area most of his life. He was a member of Temple Brethren Church. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Popelka, one daughter, Margaret Jean Wong and husband, Patrick of Sacramento, California, three sons, Martin Lynn Popelka and wife, LaVerne of Abilene, David Popelka and wife, Rebe of Colleyville, Allen Popelka and wife, Julia of Temple and five grandchildren, David James Popelka and Katherine Popelka both of Colleyville, Andrea Popelka of Abilene and Matthew Wong and Callie Wong both of Sacramento. Also surviving is one brother, Tom Popelka, Jr. of Temple. Pallbearers will be Robert Popelka, Billy Popelka, Jim James, Larry Schultze, Ron Bravenec and Oscar Kral, Jr. Memorials may be made to one's charity of choice.
