
Services for Marvin Willard Lemmons, 92, of Temple will be 1 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2008, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple with Rev. Chris Mesa of Oak Park United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Moody Cemetery. Mr. Lemmons passed away Friday, February 29, at his daughter's home in Grand Prairie, Texas. He was born August 9, 1915, to Willard Neal Lemmons and Carrya May Joyce in Old Howard, Texas. He was a resident of Temple all of his life. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II, from 1940 to 1945, in the 143rd Infantry, 36th Division. He was an ammunition driver and earned the Combat Infantryman's Badge. He served in campaigns in Naples, Rome, Southern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe, and was awarded the EAME Campaign Medal with five Bronze Stars and one Bronze Arrowhead; American Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He returned to Temple after his discharge and began driving a truck for various businesses. He met and married his first wife, Dorothy Daphene Chaney, who died in 1977. He married his second wife, Dola Nobles and retired from driving a truck for Budweiser Distributing Company. Not content to be idle in retirement, he then worked for a many years operating the milk store on South First Street. He enjoyed reading western novels, and playing golf and forty-two in his later years. He kept abreast of the news and politics and was forever a Democrat. He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, sister, Mary Elizabeth White, and brothers Joyce, Jimmy, and Tommy Lemmons. He is survived by his son Terry Lemmons and his wife Sarah, and granddaughters Marian and Elizabeth; his daughter Linda Saucedo and her husband Joe, and granddaughters Marissa and Selena; his step-son Bill Nobles and his wife Beverly, and grandchildren Rick, Emma, and Audrey; his step-daughter Susan Jochec and her husband Raymond, and granddaughters Katherine, Stacy, and Valerie; five great grandchildren; sister-in-law Madylyn Lemmons; a niece and several nephews. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and dear friend, and his kind-hearted nature and sense of humor will be missed. Family request that memorial donations may be made to Oak Park United Methodist Church in Temple, Vista Care Hospice in Temple, or Vitas Hospice of Fort Worth. The family will receive visitors from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2008, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple.
