
Mary Beth Manning, 90 of Temple died January 4, 2009 at her residence. Private family graveside services will be held at Bellwood Memorial Park with a memorial service at 1:00 PM Wednesday January 7, 2009 at Northside Church of Christ in Temple with Kyle Jackson officiating. Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Clifton Manning was born April 27, 1918 in Carlton, Texas the daughter of O.R. and Lucy Pilkinton Clifton. She graduated from Carlton High School and earned her associate degree from Tarleton State College in Stephenville. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years in Austin and Belton. She also did substitute teaching in McAllen and Temple I.S.D. Many years were also spent in teaching Children's Bible Classes, and she was a world Bible School teacher with hundreds of students in Nigeria. She obeyed the gospel in her teens and was a member of the Church of Christ. On June 15, 1941 she married M.D. Manning, Jr. in Austin, Texas. To this union two daughters were born, Regina Ann Manning Jackson of Midland and Manette Manning Scanio of Corpus Christi. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in January 2001 and by two brothers and a sister. The family requests that memorials be made to Cherokee Home for Children, Post Office Box 295, Cherokee, Texas 76832. Scanio-Harper Funeral Home of Temple is in charge of arrangements.
