

Graveside services for Olive Jane Strange, 89, of Temple will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the Floca Memorial Pavilion at Hillcrest Cemetery with Dr. Don Lynn officiating. Pallbearers will be Glyn Hammer, Dale Gibson, Bill Knight, Taylor Gibson and Drew Gibson. Mrs. Strange died Wednesday in a Temple hospital. Mrs. Strange was born in Temple to Larkin Christopher Strange and Oliv Barnett Strange. She lived in Temple all of her life. She graduated from Temple High School in 1936 and obtained her Masters Degree in Speech from the University of Texas. She taught at Troy School for one year and then taught in Temple the rest of her career. She was a teacher at Vandiver School in the Temple School District. She started the Special Education Program in Temple Schools and was that programs first Diagnostician. She was a member of City Federation, Delta Kappa Gamma, Arno Art League, Women's Study Club, Classroom Teachers and Retired Teachers Association. She was an avid Bridge player and belonged to numerous Bridge Clubs. She was an active member of First Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Ruth Circle. Her rye humor and independent spirit were exemplified in the stories that she wore a bathing suit under her cap and gown at her University of Texas graduation. She will be dearly missed by her friends and caregivers Mary Ann Gibson, Rebecca Gibson Knight, Cassie Gibson, Mary Blevins, Kay Evans and Beverly Kopriva. In Lieu of Flowers memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Temple. Scanio Harper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
