
Oscar Donald "Don" Wendel, died Thursday, November 25. 2010 in Cameron, Texas, where Don had recently moved in order to spend his last days with his daughter D'Ann Williams and her family. Don was born on June 30, 1935 to Leo Adam and Ida Westerhoff Wendel in Slaton, Texas. He was 75 years old. After serving his time in the U.S. Army, in 1955, Don went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad. Don retired from BNSF in 1997 after serving 42 years in the mechanical department as a Carman. Don was an avid bowler and during his bowling career bowled several perfect 300 games. A devoted Catholic, Don was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church at St. Joseph's in Slaton from 1935 to 1969, and St. Mary's in Temple since 1969. Don was preceded in death by his wife Jo in September of 2009, his parents and one brother. He is survived by two Daughters, D'Ann Williams and her husband Rickey of Cameron and Cindy Moore and her husband Bill of Slaton; four grandchildren Mike Moore and his wife Dana of Morgans Point, Lee Don Moore of Dallas, Elizabeth Williams of Cameron and Victoria Williams of Cameron; two great grandchildren Travis Moore of Morgans Point and Wesley Moore of Morgans Point, several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two brothers, Jake Wendel of Slaton and Allard Wendel of Amarillo as well as two sisters Mary Gaydos of Slaton and Francis Jobe of Bedford. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 29 at Hillcrest Cemetery, officiated by Father Ranjan Cletus. Visitation will be Sunday, November 28 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home from 4:00 to 5:00 P.M. with Rosary at 5:00 P.M.
