
Peggy Jean Atkinson Armstrong, 76, of Temple died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Memorial Baptist Church in Temple with Rev. Robert Mattson officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Mrs. Armstrong was born July 29, 1931 in Temple, Texas to Roy Charles and Edna Inez Smith Atkinson. She married William R. Armstrong in Temple. She was a graduate of Scott & White School of Nursing in 1951 and received her BSN from UTMB-Galveston in 1955. She was employed by Scott & White Hospital in 1966 working as Director of Nursing, Director of Operation and Finance and was Assistant Administrator for Nursing 1989-1998. She retired for short time, returning to Scott & White Hospital in 2001 as a Clinical Research Coordinator until the time of her death with a CCRP title. In 1982 she received her Masters in Science Health Profession from Southwest Texas in San Marcos and later received her CNAA from the American Nurses Association. Mrs. Armstrong was inducted into the Nursing Hall of Fame at the University of Texas at Galveston. She served on the Nursing Education Boards at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and at Temple College. Survivors include her husband William R. Armstrong of Temple; one daughter, Nancy Armstrong Swanzy and husband Chris of Temple; one son William Charles Armstrong and Hazel of Belton; one sister, Karen Hobday and husband Ted of Belton; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
