Renate Valerie Weems

Renate Valerie Weems, age 91, of Temple, Texas, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at home after a long battle with cancer. She faced her illness with strength and resilience, supported by her loving family. She was born on December 21, 1933 in Czechoslovakia the daughter of Rudolf and Alice (Scherbaum) Weishautel.

Renate married Eddie Weems on June 25, 1958 in Oberammergau, Germany and quickly became an Army wife and a homemaker having raised 2 children.

In 1981, Renate and her husband Eddie bought nine acres of land in the Temple area, where they built their home and settled down. She enjoyed working in her garden, baking, and spending time with her family and her pets. Renate was also an active member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church, where she was part of the community for many years.

She is survived by her children Sonja Shaffell of Killeen and Robert Weems of Temple, granddaughter Sharon Redmond of Fort Worth, great granddaughter Dannielle Wright of Dallas, and a great great granddaughter Amara Guerrero of Dallas. Renate was preceded in death by her husband Eddie R. Weems and her parents.

A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 10:00 am at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 TX-195, Killeen, Texas 76542 .
