A native, lifelong Houstonian, growing up in Bellaire, he graduated from Bellaire High school. He attended Stephen F. Austin State University and graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in fine arts. He was raised in the Methodist church and raised his family in Methodist churches in the Katy area.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Foundation Global Methodist Church in Temple with Rev Gary White and Rev Nick Sholars officiating
Robert married the love of his life, Sherry, on November 24, 1972. Together, they enjoyed a life filled with laughter, love and a special devotion to each other. It is a union that began in love and will be continued in the arms of Jesus Christ, in our eternal home.
Throughout his life, he touched those around him with love, kindness, humor and creativity. He found a career in advertising and marketing for oil/gas companies that allowed him to travel around the world. Photographing nature and making connections with people were what he loved most about his travels. He served in local churches in various roles including as a member of pastor-parish relations committee, youth bible study teacher and could always be found on the sidelines cheering on his kids & grandkids in various sports and activities. Some of his favorite hobbies included: jogging, barbecuing, playing guitar, any water activity and all sorts of artistic endeavors. In his grandparent era, he loved creating backdrop sets for school plays when and where he could. His “familiar face”, contagious smile and laughter were the gateway for him connecting with people. He never met a stranger. His favorite phrases were “go for it” and “take time, make time, thank you Lord, Amen.” He was always up for a new adventure, like learning to ride a motorcycle, or captaining a boat, but remained grounded in what mattered most, his faith in our Lord. Of all his loves in this life, his wife, Sherry, his children and grandchildren were unmatched. He considered them his treasures and would share their pictures and stories with whomever would listen.
He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Coons White, husband, Gary: grandchildren, Addison Leigh White and Olivia Ann White of Temple, son, Bradford Charles Coons, wife, Whitney King Coons, grandchildren: Callum Bradford Coons and Clara Kate Coons of Austin, sister-in-law, Diane Ponder and husband, Dick Ponder of Katy and a loving family of cousins, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Sherry Coons, along with his parents, Rueben Charles Coons, Olivia Johanna Coons, sisters: Linda Hogan and Penny Tooke and many aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins and friends.
