

Robert H. Ellison, age 91 of Temple, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the William R. Courtney State Veterans Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00pm Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Jay Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. There will be no set time for visitation.Mr. Ellison was born on August, 12, 1924 in Gatesville, Texas to the late Hardy Robert Ellison and Eva Love Simpson. He attended schools in Temple and graduated from Temple High School in 1941. He also received an Associate’s degree from Temple Junior College. He married Johnell Davis on April, 20, 1947 at First Baptist Church in Temple. Robert worked for the U.S. Postal system in Temple for 32 years, retiring in 1979. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher, a Royal Ambassador counselor and as Sunday school General Secretary for 51 years. He was also an AARP counselor/tax volunteer and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as Petty Officer 2nd class. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hardy Ellison; sisters, Evelyn Gentry and Frances Hill; and two brothers, Lloyd Ellison and Donald Ellison.Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Johnell Ellison of Temple; sons, Robert H. Ellison, III and wife Linda of Houston, Texas and Timothy R. Ellison of Waco, Texas; a daughter, Jana Irene Ellison Allen and husband Daniel of Elgin; a brother, Harold Ellison of Rogers, Arkansas; a sister, Linda Johnson of Temple; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Chapman of Seattle, Washington, Amanda Mariano of Houston, Brian Ellison of Plano, Melissa Bledsoe of Waco, Texas, Audrey O’Neill of Austin, Texas, Holly Ferrioli of Oregon and Darren Allen of Austin; and seven great grandchildren, Keegan O’Neill, Avy O’Neill, Lily Bledsoe, Boden Mariano, Nola Mariano, Celia Chapman and Victoria Ferrioli.Pallbearers will be Robert H. Ellison, III, Daniel Allen, William O’Neill, Brian Ellison, Cody Bledsoe and Darren Allen. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Friendship Class of First Baptist Church of Temple.Memorials may be given in Mr. Ellison’s name to the First Baptist Church of Temple, 8015 W.
