

Roy Walter Cox March 2, 1934 - December 14, 2013 Roy Cox was born March 2, 1934 in Raymondville, Texas to Paul and Thelma (Smith) Cox. He grew up in Bellaire, Texas and graduated from Rice University. He was a member of Bellaire Methodist Church where he met and fell in love with Carole Elizabeth Beard. On June 28, 1958 he married Carole in Bellaire and for 25 years they lived in Houston where they raised their two children, Barbara Lynn and Roy, Jr. In 1989 they moved to Lebanon, Tennessee where they lived until 2010. They then returned home to Texas to be back with their loved ones. Roy enjoyed being with family above all else, as his devotion to them was the major focus of his life. He truly loved life and was always smiling, positive, and encouraging to all. He was a masterful storyteller and enjoyed others' stories as well. He was much loved by all of his family who have been forever blessed by his unconditional love and devotion. He was a caring husband, father, and grandfather who will be dearly missed. Roy was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Masons, Stephens Ministry, DeMolay, Gideon's, and was an officer of the Rotary Club of Lebanon, Tennessee. He served in the Army Reserves where he and his father were the first father-son officer team of the 75th MAC. He spent a month in New York City after 9/11 serving as a Red Cross volunteer providing counsel and comfort to the grieving. He worked in Human Relations and was a Safety Engineer for Texas Eastern Gas Pipeline Company. After moving back to Texas he was a member of Woodway First United Methodist Church. Roy was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Carole. He is survived by his daughter Barbara Reis and husband Dr. Michael Reis of Temple, son Roy Cox Jr. and wife Stephanie Cox of Spring, and grandchildren Dr. Scott Reis and wife Alicia of New York City, Brian Reis of Austin, Michelle (Reis) Mattern and husband Jameson of Temple, Mark Cox of Houston and Virginia Cox of Spring brother Bruce Cox of Katy and sister Paula Wright of Austin. Memorials may be made to McLane's Children's Hospital at Scott& White Healthcare Foundation, 2401 S 31st Street, Temple, Texas 76508. Visitation will be Friday December 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Scanio Harper Funeral Home in Temple. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday December 21st at First United Methodist Church of Temple with Rev. Gail Ford Smith and Rev. Don Moore officiating.
