William A. Haas

William A. Haas, age 96, of Troy died Friday, November 30, 2007 in a local nursing home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, December 3 at Bellwood Memorial Park with Rev. Stephen Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 PM Sunday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Mr. Haas was born March 11, 1911 in Bartlett to Fritz and Emma (Wiese) Haas. He married Esther Beerwinkle on December 12, 1934. She preceded him in death June 23, 1993. He married Audrey Honeycutt Bilbrey in July, 1994 and she preceded him in death in March, 2006. He was also preceded by one grandson. He was a farmer in the Bottoms Community for most of his life. He also drove a truck for Bell County Road Dept. before retiring in 1990 at the age of 80. Mr. Haas was a member of Oak Park United Methodist Church. He served on the Board of Trustees for Troy ISD and was a board member of Bell County Farm Bureau. Survivors include one daughter, Marjorie H. Lewis and husband, David of Oenaville, one son, Gene Haas and wife, Shirley of Troy, one sister, Edna Schmidt of Moody, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to one's charity or church of choice.
