

William Ellington, 74 of Troy went home to be with the Lord on December 15,2008 surrounded by his family. He was a Baptist who was a devoted family man. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Services for Mr. Ellington will be held at 2:00 PM Friday December 19, 2008 at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple with Rev. Ernest Thompson and Dr. Ramiro Pena officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. Mr. Ellington was born on September 22, 1934 to James Marshall and Mary Elizabeth Dowell Ellington in Willow Grove. William attended school in Willow Grove and Troy. He graduated from Troy High School in 1953. After graduating, he joined the Air Force. He proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in Japan and Korea, William returned to Troy after being discharged in 1958. He married the love of his life Dorothy Kott on May 20, 1960 in Temple. They spent many wonderful years together. He worked for Wilson Art for 31 years. When he retired, he was manager of Melamine Treater Department. He raised cattle, goats, chickens and rabbits. He loved to weld, fish and hunt. He loved spending time with his family. He especially loved having his grandchildren around. Survivors include his dear wife of 48 years of Troy, two daughters Brenda McKenzie and husband Randy of Georgetown, Melissa Kent and husband Al of Troy, five grandchildren, Nikki and Jordan Moore and Hope Kent of Troy, Keeley and Jonathan McKenzie of Georgetown, his mother, Mary Ellington of Temple, five sisters, Jimmye Kelly of Plano, Margaret Hildebrandt of Moulton, Betty Vaughn of Mexia, Helen Hagler of Corsicana and Linda Hammer of Red Oak. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Barbara Sue Hilliard. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM Thursday December 18, 2008 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
