Willie Clyde West

Willie Clyde West, age 91 of Temple, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013 in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, April 26, 2013 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Dr. Leroy Kemp and Rev. Ridge Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 1-2:00 PM Friday, April 26th prior to the service. Willie was born on November 9, 1921 in Van Zandt County, Texas to the late Henry Hershel West and Marie Parker West. He graduated from Canton High School in Canton, TX in 1940 and from Texas A&M College in 1944 with a degree in Agriculture Education. Willie married Doris "Pete" Brakebill on March 30, 1944 and she preceded him in death on January 31, 1999. Willie was a school teacher at Academy, Holland and Bartlett. He later taught at a G.I. School, and was a merchandise manager at Sears Automotive in Temple. Willie was a deacon at Memorial Baptist Church and Heights Baptist Church. He had a special love for family, church, handy-work, baseball and softball. Willie was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Survivors include his two children, Tommy West of Georgetown and Judy West of Temple; two granddaughters, Denise West Salcedo and Alison West Peterman; five great-grandchildren, Owen, Ian and Levi Salcedo, and Taylor and Madison Peterman. Memorials may be given in Mr. West's name to the Building Fund of either First Baptist Church in Temple or Crestview Baptist Church in Georgetown.
