Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was a graduate of Teaneck High School with the class of 1951. Shortly thereafter, he honorably served our country in the US Navy from 1953-1955 during the Korean Conflict. Upon completion of his service, he graduated from the National School of Meat Cutting and became a butcher for the A&P Tea Company, where he worked for 31 years.
Arthur was a member of the Local 464 in Little Falls, NJ. He also coordinated an alcohol and drug abuse program for the union members, in which he dedicated his time for 11 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur J. Burns and Rose K. (nee McInearney) Burns.
Surviving are his sister, Sheila Tulli, and her husband Tony; his nephews: Kenneth Michels and his significant other, JoAnne, John Michels, and Thomas Michels; and his favorite niece, Julianne Newey.
For all of his life, the most important thing to Arthur (second only to his family) was his 56 year membership in Alcoholics Anonymous. His journey in sobriety began on April 10, 1967, and he credited the principles and fellowship of the program as the key to his long-lasting and happy life.
A private cremation was held under the direction of Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, Toms River. Interment of his cremated remains will be held at the NJ Veterans Cemetery in Wrightstown on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 11AM.
