Barbara M. Carpenter, 76, of Toms River, New Jersey, passed away on February 28, 2026. Born on August 4, 1949, in Hoboken, New Jersey, Barbara lived a life defined by love, devotion, and a deep commitment to both family and community.
Barbara shared a lifelong love story with her high school sweetheart and beloved husband, Ronald Carpenter. Their enduring partnership was the foundation of her world, and together they built the family she cherished above all else. She was predeceased by Ronald on September 27, 2017, as well as by her parents, Joseph and Johanna Radigan.
She was a devoted mother to her three sons: Ronald Carpenter Jr. and his wife Marie; Brad Carpenter and his wife Carrie; and Shawn Carpenter and his wife Catherine. Barbara was endlessly proud of the men her sons became and often expressed gratitude for the husbands and fathers they were.
Her greatest joy was being “Grandma” to Ashlyn, Shane, Sofia, Ava, Skyler, Olivia, and Cate. She treasured each of her grandchildren and formed special bonds with them, taking immense pride in their lives and accomplishments.
Barbara is also survived by her brother, Jimmy Radigan, and his wife Joanne, along with many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins who were an important part of her extended family.
Professionally, Barbara worked as an Executive Assistant at Monroe Village, where she brought dedication and care to her role. She was especially proud of her time serving as a Councilwoman in Jamesburg, New Jersey, where she took ownership in helping establish the Thompson Park Dog Park in Monroe Township — a lasting reflection of her commitment to her community and her immense love for dogs.
Barbara longed to love and be loved, and she was surrounded by that love throughout her life. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the community she served, and the countless memories filled with pride and devotion.
A celebration of life will be held and announced at a later date.
