- - On Monday, September 17, 2018, Eda Moreno, a beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister ended her long battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Eda was born January 4, 1957 in Passaic, NJ, to Louis and Ida Batelli. Eda was a loving, caring person, with a smile that could light up a room. Eda loved to help people, subsequently leading her to a career in Nursing. After graduating with a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from William Paterson University, Eda was commissioned as an Officer in the U.S. Navy, in which she served her country for 30 years retiring at the rank of Captain. Captain Moreno served during Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm, as well as Operation Iraqi Freedom. Captain Moreno loved her sailors. Her Corpsman always held a special place in her heart, looking after them as if they were her own children.
Eda having a love for nursing, education, and teaching continued her academic career earning a Master's Degree in Nursing from Old Dominion University. During her studies, Eda was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Her fighting spirit would not let cancer hold her back. Eda beat breast cancer, all the while serving her country and going to school full time. When Eda retired from the Navy she was not ready to stop serving her country, becoming a Civil Servant for the Department of the Navy, and later the Department of Veterans Affairs. Her love for education and teaching, once again led Eda back to school where she earned a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Old Dominion University. Sadly, Eda was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer two months prior to graduation. Eda fought through vigorous chemotherapy and extraordinary pain to finish her requirements to graduate and walk across the stage as a Doctor.
Eda was a natural leader and role model to all without having to try. She was the type of person who inspired others to be their best, and challenged them to strive to be even better. She was always available for a helping hand, an ear to listen, or a shoulder to cry on. Although Eda never got to teach in an official capacity, she never let that stop her from helping nursing students. During her stays in the hospital and in hospice, Eda continued to teach nursing students, instructing them on what was going on inside her own body so they could further their education. Eda will never be forgotten, as she was an Angel on earth, she is now and forever will be a guardian Angel to those she loved. Eda is survived by her husband of thirty years Dan, her three sons Daniel, Michael, and Zachary, her brothers Eugene and Louie, as well as her Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, nephew, nieces and loving friends. Until we meet again, Fair Winds and Following Seas! Visiting will be held Wednesday September 26th from 7-9 pm at the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Rd. Toms River.
