

John Martin Coughlin, 83, of Toms River, NJ was called home suddenly Monday March 7, 2016, by our loving Father, The Lord Jesus Christ. Born in Newark, NJ, John raised his children with his loving wife Agnes in Belleville, NJ before moving to Toms River 32 years ago. John was a corporal in the US Army having served during the Korean War. John retired from the US Postal Service after 32 years of service. He was a daily communicant of St. Joseph RC Church, Toms River and was a member of the church’s prayer group.
John was predeceased by his parents Martin Coughlin and Margaret Hurley, his wife of 59 years Agnes , his daughter Maureen, his sisters Margaret and Mary and his brother Joseph. He is survived by his devoted children and their spouses, Margaret and Robert Klaslo of Toms River, John J. and Loida Coughlin of Toms River, Thomas M. and Sheline Coughlin of Forked River and Eileen M. and Richard Keegan of Toms River.; 10 grandchildren Robert, Maureen, John, Matthew, James, Jennifer, Megan, Kaitlyn, Dina, and Mark; 8 great-grandchildren Isla, Johnny, Elliot, Jack, Andrew, Christine, Craig and Hannah. He was also loved by many sisters and brothers in law, nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
John will be best remembered for his love of God, love of his wife, children, grandchildren and his many friends. He had a quick wit, loved to joke and enjoyed “treating” his “grand dogs”.
The family will receive friends Thursday March 10 from 4 to 8 PM at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home 26 Mule Road Toms River, NJ 08755. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday March 11 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph RC Church, Toms River. Burial to follow at the Brig. Gen. Wm C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at cff.org or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
