Laura A. Atene Herbert

Laura A. Herbert, 99, of Berkeley Township passed away at her home on Wednesday, June 16, 2010. Born on December 26, 1910 in Brooklyn, NY to Dominick and Theresa Atene, she lived in Brooklyn before moving to Berkeley Township in 1999.

Mrs. Herbert was a legal stenographer and legal secretary for more than 60 years. She was a life member and past president of the ladies auxiliary of the V.F.W. “Captain Vincent F. Atene” Post #3230 in Brooklyn. The post was named in honor of Laura’s brother.

Mrs. Herbert was predeceased by her husband, Thomas P. Herbert in 2003, her brother Vincent F. Atene and her sister, Rita Roberts. She is survived by her son, Thomas P. Herbert and his wife Andrea of Jenkintown, PA, her daughter, Maureen Hanahan and her husband Robert of Berkeley Township, her four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2010 from 8:30 to 10:00am at the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River. A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday at 10:30am at the St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church in Berkeley Township. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent in her name to the Meridian Health Foundation, 4900 State Route 33, STE 200, Neptune, NJ 07753.
