Marianne was born in Plainfield, NJ, to immigrant parents, Andrew and Anna Gaydos, from what was then Czechoslovakia. She grew up during the Great Depression and World War II. It was during that difficult era that she would learn the qualities that characterized her life: self-sacrifice, hard work, and love for others. Marianne was predeceased by two brothers - Paul Gaydos and her twin, Joseph Gaydos.
Marianne married Benedict Barat in St. Stanislaus R. C. Church in Plainfield in 1949. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage. They lived in Linden, NJ until 1988, when they moved to Toms River, NJ.
Marianne worked as a telephone operator for NJ Bell, a salesperson for Steinbach’s Department Store, and for over 20 years as a receptionist for the Singer Sewing Machine Corporation. Marianne was an excellent cook, a meticulous homemaker, a devoted wife, and a wonderfully warm and loving mother and grandmother. No sacrifice was too great for her family. Marianne was a devout Roman Catholic her entire life.
Marianne leaves her husband Benedict, sons Gary with his wife Susan of Elizabeth, NJ, and Robert with his wife Katherine of Franklin Park, NJ. Marianne also leaves four grandchildren, Nicholas Barat, Melissa Barat Bours and her husband Benjamin, Alexander Barat, and Kendra Barat. The family especially enjoyed gathering with Marianne on Christmas since this day was also Marianne’s birthday.
