

Michael was born in Czechoslovakia and came to the United States in 1939 with his parents, Anna Josefov’-Tusay and Michael Tusay Sr. They settled in Brooklyn, New York. He entered The US Air Force in 1948. He met and married Carmela Yodice in 1951.
Michael’s career path took him to Wall Street in the stock brokerage industry and into Banking where he retired in 1992.
Michael was a long-standing parishioner at St. Athanasius Church in Brooklyn, where he actively participated in the Holy Name Society. After relocating to Toms River, New Jersey, he attended St. Maximilian Kolbe Church and joined the Holy Name Society. Michael was a board member of the Holiday Heights Association as well as the Moose Lodge #168.
Michael had a passion for sports, and his community benefited greatly from his involvement in youth programs. He selflessly helped run the Basketball and Baseball programs for St. Athanasius Church for many years.
Michael was scouted by both the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Yankees, an achievement he proudly shared with family and friends throughout his life.
Upon retirement, Michael and his beloved wife of 72 years, Carmela Tusay, relocated to Holiday Heights in Toms River, New Jersey.
In 2004, Michael and Carmela settled in Surprise, Arizona, where they became active members of the St. Claire of Assisi Catholic Church. Michael served as the Treasurer for the Knights of Columbus and elected President of the Czech-Slovak American Club and played ball until well into his 80’s.
Michael Tusay Jr. leaves behind a legacy of faith, community service, and dedication to family and friends. He had a full well-loved and lived life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carmela Tusay, his children: Michael P. Tusay and sp. Madelyn, Patricia A. Tusay, and Janet M. Tusay-Hughes and sp. Thomas; and five grandchildren: Elizabeth (Lisa), Michael and his sp. Laura, and Nicholas Tusay, Thomas Hughes and his sp. Melissa and Caitlin Hughes-Albanese and sp. Thomas; and seven great grandchildren: Callie, Aiden and Emily Hughes, Cecilia and Mikey Tusay, and Rachel and Lindsey Albanese and his dog Maxie.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River NJ. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 10AM at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Berkeley NJ. Interment will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River NJ.
