

Born in Red Bank, he resided in Brooklyn and Woodland Park before settling in Holiday City community of Berkeley almost 30 years ago.
Prior to retiring, he was an owner and proprietor of Tonell Display Company in Little Falls with his father and brothers. He honorably served our country during World War II as a First Lieutenant in the US Army.
Peter thoroughly enjoyed being an active member of the Holiday City Community. He was a member of the bowling team, dart team, bocce team, and men's club. He was a member of the FreeCare club through CareFree, where he volunteered helping other seniors in Holiday City. Peter also sang in many of the community events and was very well known for his voice in the Holiday City Variety Shows.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Prudence; his siblings: Frank, Silvio, Bert, John, and Teresa; and his granddaughter, Kierstin Joy.
Surviving are his children: Diane Gasalberti and her husband Douglas, Nina Buonomo and her husband Richard, Peter Carelli and his wife Monica, and Michael Carelli and his wife Karen; his grandchildren: Rich and his wife Lindsey, Janine and her husband James, Peter John, Jillian, Jamie, Joseph, Joy, and John; his great-grandson, Julian, who was born two days prior to Peter's passing. Also surviving are his brother-in-law, Edward Sclafani and his wife Anne; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members, all who saw him as the last patriarch of the family.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 from 4-8PM at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 10AM at St. Joseph RC Church, Toms River. Interment will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Peter's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
