
Peter Matthew Finnegan, a kind-hearted, faithful, and compassionate man, passed away on December 19, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on December 31, 1953, in Neptune, New Jersey, Peter was raised in Cranford, NJ, where he spent his formative years. Peter was a resident of Toms River, New Jersey, where he lived a life filled with love and dedication to his family and community. He was a devoted husband to his surviving spouse, Sabina Finnegan, and a loving father to his son, Peter Joseph Finnegan. Peter's educational journey led him to graduate from St. Peters College and the Chubb Institute in 1977. His career achievements and contributions were a testament to his dedication and commitment. He is predeceased by his father, Dr. William Finnegan, his mother, Ruth Finnegan (Newhouse), and his brothers, Robert and William Finnegan. He is also predeceased by his brother-in-law, Anthony Mezzina, and his father-in-law, Celestino Mezzina. Peter is survived by his brother, Michael Finnegan, and his sisters, Ruth Marie Livingston, Therese Bocchino, and Claire Chirico. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Pasquale Prudente and Joseph Mezzina, and his sister-in-law, Angela Mezzina. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, in-laws and extended family. Peter's life was a beacon of kindness and compassion, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends will be received on Monday, December 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River, NJ 08755. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 135 St. Maximilian Lane, Toms River, NJ 08757. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Toms River. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research hospital at www.stjude.org
