

William M. Schoenig Sr., 90, of Toms River, NJ passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 24, 2025. Bill grew up as the second oldest of six to the late William and Theresa Schoenig, proud confident full of fun and laughter to his siblings which later carried over to his children, grandchildren and great grandchild. He will be deeply missed by all his friends.
Bill grew up in Hillside, NJ and attended Hillside High School. After graduating High School Bill went on to work for Wilcolator's as a Laborer. In 1954 Bill enlisted in the US Army honorably discharged after serving during the Korean War as a Tank Instructor in 1961. During his time in the reserves he married the love of his life Karen in 1958. Bill and Karen moved to Port Reading, NJ to raise their family and later retired and relocated to Toms River, NJ in 2004. He became part of the teamsters Union working for Amoco and Whaleco, Carteret, NJ until his retirement.
Bill enjoyed fishing, playing cards, playing softball, bowling, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, trivia, gardening and a passionate fan of the Women's UCONN basketball team. Most nights you could find him feeding the deer in his backyard. Most importantly Bill loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Although he didn't travel often he took advantage of their timeshare in Williamsburg, Va and Cape Cod, MA with his family.
Bill was predeceased by his loving wife Karen (Schnibbe) of 58 years in 2017, his granddaughter Kristin Schoenig-Thorsen in 2017, his son James Schoenig in 2022 and his four siblings Joseph, Anna, Robert and Victor. Surviving are his three children; Karen Piesch and her husband Andrew, William and his wife Kelly, Lisa Thomas and her husband Michael, his seven grandchildren; Corey, Stacia (Frank), Rachel, Marissa (Omar), Kayla, Brandon and Christian, his great grandchildren; Kayden, Frankie and Austin. Also surviving is his daughter in law AnnMarie Schoenig, his grandson in law Michael Thorsen, his brother Frank Schoenig and a host of loving nieces and nephews and extended family.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 4-8 pm at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Rd., Toms River, NJ. Interment will be at the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 10:30 am.
