She was predeceased by her parents, Rufino Sayo Garcia and Felicidad Liongson Garcia, brothers Rafael and Ramon Garcia, and survived by her sister, Sylvia Garcia Tamayo, and nephews and nieces.
Angie was born and raised in her hometown of Tondo, Manila in the Philippines, her beloved home country. She studied Library Science at the Philippine Normal University and worked as a Librarian at Occupation Safety and Health Center, National Library of the Philippines and Chinese General Hospital Colleges before realizing her dream of immigrating to a foreign country. In 2000, Angie moved to Toronto, Canada.
Here in this city, Angie’s drive for continuous learning was encouraged and facilitated – becoming a certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) in 2013, and finishing various skills training. Angie’s keen mind and ability to navigate government policies, requirements and documentation also made her a valuable consultant to friends requiring assistance with their immigration, tax return and other questions.
Hobbies that Angie enjoyed included keeping up-to-date with Philippine politics, watching Toronto Raptors games and Manny Pacquiao bouts, cooking Filipino dishes like batchoy, and singing good old songs like Tom Jones’ One Day Soon and the classic That’s What Friends Are For with her besties.
But if there’s only one thing to remember about Angie’s life, it would be her single-mindedness in helping and supporting her beloved family – not just by sending money home but by financing the studies of her nephews and nieces, enabling them to gain higher education and pursue more career opportunities for a better quality of life. Her dedication and commitment to them resulted in nephews and nieces who are now established in their chosen careers.
Angie achieved her goal and completed her mission. Although we might think that she left too soon and had not enjoyed retirement life yet, God’s timing is always perfect - the Lord called her home because His work through her life was done.
And so it is with fond memories and thanksgiving that we celebrate the life of our friend, Angie.
