SACHS, Anna nee Fruck (Fruk)- Under palliative care supervision in her home, following a stay at North York General Hospital, in Toronto on Monday, October 24, 2016 at 9:50 pm died of pneumonia brought on by complications due to dementia. Anna was born May 1, 1928 in a village near Dobrich, in what is now Bulgaria (Romania prior to 1940). In Anna's village, people spoke a Babel of languages and as a result she spoke Romanian, German, Bulgarian, and Macedonian fluently, and also some Russian and Ukranian. During WW11, Anna was a teenage refugee and ended up in a devastated Occupied Germany. She married Johann also from Romania, and had two children, George (Georg) and John (Johann). Her husband, Johann, emigrated to Canada in 1952 and Anna followed with the children in 1953. Anna and her husband separated in 1957, largely due to a big age difference, but neither ever remarried. Being without much formal education but having a youthful energy and drive, Anna worked cleaning homes, taking in laundry and catering parties. Soon she had her own home and took in boarders to help pay her mortgage. She kept her homes spotlessly clean and later in life, ran a successful bed and breakfast business in the days before the internet. Eventually she chose to focus on enjoying life with her children and grandchildren. Anna loved to go on long walks in her North York neighbourhood, and for coffee in the mornings at various local coffee houses. A friendly woman, she knew many of her neighbours and people that she met on her walks. Anna was predeceased by her husband, Johann, her parents, Jacob and Teresia, and her brother Ferdinand. Anna is lovingly remembered by her sons, George and John, her daughter-in-law Velma, her grandchildren Erich, David, and Rachel, her caregivers in particular, Marilyne;, her sisters Veronica and Mary, and her many nephews and nieces, especially Edeltraud, Helen, Theresa, Walter, Freddy, Hannelore, Elizabeth, Brigitte, and Derek. The Sachs Family thanks the nurses and doctors at North York General Hospital, the palliative care team at the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative care, and the CCAC staff in NorthYork.
