Bernice Edith Sparks

Peacefully with family by her side, Bernice passed away on January 30, in her 97th year.

Bernice was the beloved and devoted wife of the late Jack Sparks (2011). Dearly loved mother of Gregory (Whitney), Roger (Rebecca), and the late John (Elizabeth). Cherished grandmother of John (Clare), Mary Elizabeth (Matthis), Vicky, and David (Olivia). Predeceased by her brother Garnard and sister Beryl. Fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born in Sutton, Bernice graduated from the University of Toronto, in 1942 with a Bachelor of Arts in Domestic Science, married the love of her life Jack in 1943 and together they raised their family, and lived in North Toronto for the next 68 years.

Bernice was a consummate hostess who loved to cook and entertain at home. With her quick wit and social disposition she made friends easily and brought out the best in everyone. Bernice relished her involvement with the Wanless Park Bridge Club, the Cricket Club, the Fairlawn Avenue United Church community, and a vibrant group of close DeVere Gardens neighbours. An ardent Toronto sports fan, she loved the Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays. Together Bernice and Jack enjoyed extensive world travel and numerous car trips throughout the years to Kenora and Sarnia to visit children and grandchildren. Bernice spent her final years receiving excellent support and care at the Teddington Park Retirement Home. We are truly grateful for their loving care of Bernice.

Bernice will always be remembered for her outgoing, social personality, sense of humour, and love of family.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm at the Jerrett North York Funeral Home 6191 Yonge St. (South of Steeles Ave.) on Tuesday February 6, 2018. A Funeral Service will be held in the chapel at 12:30pm. Internment to follow at York Cemetery.
