Dennis Eric Jones

Dennis is predeceased by his loving wife, Elizabeth (2009), his parents, Lewis and Annie, his brother, Robert and sister-in-law Una. He is survived by his sons, Richard (Heather) of Woodstock, Ontario and Phillip (Lisa) of Etobicoke. Much loved Grandad of Kirsten, Lashbrook (Corrin), Alexander (Haley) and Cecilly (David); Great-Grandad of Astrid.

Dennis was born on April 26, 1930 in Watford, Hertfordshire, England. Dennis was trained as a graphic artist. While completing his post war service in the Royal Air Force, Dennis was part of an exchange to Gimli, Manitoba.

During his time stationed at Gimli, he traveled extensively in Canada and fell in love with the country. He, Elizabeth and infant son, Richard, immigrated in 1956 when he was hired by the Toronto Star as a photo retoucher on the Weekly Star Magazine. When the Magazine production was moved to Montreal, he accepted a position in Stratford at Mirror Press.

In 1974, he was hired by the McMichael Canadian Collection as assistant to the director and the family returned to Thornhill. Dennis retired from there in 1990. While at the McMichael Collection, he earned his B.A. from York University following many years of night courses.

In his retirement, he enjoyed time at the cottage, his work with Mission GTA and co-ordinating the Kneeling Army Prayer Network. When he moved to Glynwood Retirement Residence, he started the Bed Mat program which makes bed mats out of milk bags. To date, the group has made over 2000 mats. He also acted as a pastor at New Beginnings Fellowship in Thornhill.

The Celebration of Life for Dennis will be held Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 140 Brooke Street, Thornhill. Private Interment.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto or a church of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Kane-Jerrett Funeral Homes North York.
