Don was born in Toronto on June 13, 1933 to Marjorie (nee Fotheringham) and Harry Prentice.
He had a very successful career with Patons and Baldwins Mill (they made yarn) in Toronto with corporate offices in England. He retired as vice president of sales in 1993.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Elsie. His daughter Kelly and son-in-law Rick. His daughter-in-law, Cory Cass, and granddaughters Tara and Cailin Prentice
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Michael, and his brother Bruce.
Cherished memories are family summer driving vacations, Sunday drives, trips to Wasaga Beach, weekends in Washago at Alb and Hazel’s home on the green river, weekends at his brother’s cottages on Georgian Bay. Traveling with his wife to visit her family in Northern Ireland and other trips to England, Morocco, Maui, Spain, Scotland.
And most of all he loved spending time with his grand daughters. According to them he was the best Grandpa ever and best popcorn maker.
Once Don retired, he and his wife always enjoyed spending the month of November in Myrtle Beach, SC. Many visits to his daughter and son-in-law who live in Florida and going on cruises with them. Another favorite activity were trips to Ontario casinos.
Unfortunately Don had a stroke 6 years ago which put him in a wheelchair with limited mobility on his right side and his world drastically changed. They moved into Amica Bayview Village retirement residence. He couldn’t drive anymore and had daily caregivers helping him. But his best caregiver was his wife and he always said he couldn’t have done it without her. He was still congenial to all and had some great one liners. Thank you to the Amica staff and the PSWs who have cared for Don over the years. We really appreciate you.
He will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts. Our memories will keep him with us always.
A memorial will be held at a later date for the family.
