Dorothy was born in Toronto to Macedonian parents Antigone and Daniel Yane. She grew up as part of a hardworking family in a modest home in Cabbagetown. In her younger years, she worked at the Thomson Paper Box Company. She was an incredibly talented seamstress and made the most beautifully tailored clothes. In 1950 Dorothy married Laza Vidakovich, and together they had three children: Steven, Irene, and Jeanne.
After Laza died in 1971, Dorothy went back to school to get a diploma in accounting so that she could get a job to support her family. She worked in this field for only a short time however, and in 1975 took a position at the UIC, where she advanced through the ranks and stayed until she retired. After her retirement, Dorothy took on the very important role of providing daycare for her cherished grandchildren.
Dorothy lived a very long life and was loved by all. Her last 15 years were spent in the loving care of her daughter Irene and family.
She died at age 98 after a sudden decline in health with both of her daughters by her side.
She was predeceased by her parents, Antigone and Daniel; husband Laza (1971); beloved son Steven (2013); and siblings Thomas (Julie), Margaret, Harry (Mamie), George, and Liberty. She is survived by her daughters Irene (Len) and Jeanne (Bruce); grandchildren Zoe, Olivia, Katherine, Emily, Madelaine, Steven, and Mila; and daughter-in-law Angela (Steven).
Dorothy was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed by all and we will be forever indebted to her for her love, kindness, and generosity. She will be forever in our hearts.
